Children and Adolescents

It is always worrying when children develop pains unexpectedly but in the vast majority of cases there is no serious underlying cause of the symptoms. We have considerable experience in treating children and adolescents who have muscle and joint problems and liaise with GP’s and Consultants if we have any concerns.

When we assess children and adolescents we plan a treatment programme that takes into account whether they are going through a phase of rapid growth and the lifestyle of the typical teenager!

The types of musculoskeletal problems physiotherapy can help include:

  • Posture problems
  • Hypermobility
  • Knee Disorders
  • Sports/dance/gymnastic injuries
  • Foot disorders
  • Soft tissue injuries e.g. sprained ankles
  • Joint and muscle problems
  • "Growing pains"
  • Adolescent headaches
  • Neck and back pain

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the assessment and treatment.
